Antique Louis XV Style Brown Leather Chair

Lovely Louis XV style chair is upholstered in a saddle brown antique leather that is embellished with hand tooled gilt detailing. The chair has a frame that is painted in a creamy ivory color that has patinated over time, acquiring an amazing antique finish with the warm wood tones showing through in places.
The idea of adding subtle decorative detailing was utilized in the eighteenth century to add glamor to upholstered furniture. The frame of this chair illustrates the elegance and sophistication of the concept. It has beautiful carvings highlighted in gold with an elegant trim line accent along the wood frame edges. The curves of the chair are reminiscent of the lines found throughout the Louis XV era. The frame continues to the cabriole legs and scrolled feet.
The chair’s seat, back and arm pads are upholstered in leather in a warm saddle brown. The seat back has hand tooled gilding detail. Gilding of leather originated in Renaissance Italy and naturally spread to royal courts across Europe as it was such a lovely feature. The leather upholstery is secured to the frame with brass nail head trim.
