nAntique and vintage birdcages aren't just for the birds - many collectors use them as decorative objects. Antique birdcages can be used in a variety of ways in the home and garden:
- light fixture
- on your tablescape
- to display keepsakes, photos or sentimental cards
Antique birdcages are typically made from brass, wicker, wood and wire. They are often painted and decorated with beads, carvings and trims and are easily found in many different sizes, styles and shapes.
Often birdcages are modeled after popular architecture such as a French chateau, a Victorian cathedral, a Chinese pagoda or even a faux tree! Antique birdcages were designed for beauty, entertainment and purpose and styles include musical birdcages, birdcages on stands, hanging cages or tabletop birdcages; and in sizes from petite to as large as a room!
On my recent trip antique sourcing trip to Europe, I spotted many different antique birdcages for sale in antique shops and warehouses:
Antique birdcage I spotted in Avignon, France
Antique birdcage at a Belgium antique dealer
Antique birdcage in a Belgian antiques warehouse
European Finds Online Antique Warehouse
Vintage warm creamy colored birdcage with Persian Red accents is a smaller version on one we found during a sourcing trip to Avignon, France. The intricate wire work makes this a standout piece.
